Effects of natural disasters show need for better service in rural areas is acutely apparent, consumer group tells review

Fires, floods and the pandemic have exposed the need to recognise telecommunications as an essential service in legislation and improve funding for regional investment and digital inclusion programs, according to a telecommunications advocacy body.

The Australian Communications Consumer Action Network’s deputy CEO, Andrew Williams, said the need for better telecommunication services had become acutely apparent since the last Regional Telecommunications Review was held in 2018..
